What Is Individual Therapy in Nashville?

Individual therapy is one type of psychotherapy, also called talk therapy. During sessions, you work through personal problems and issues that have directly impacted your mental health and well-being. Unlike group sessions, you work directly with a therapist to discuss your problems and issues privately in a safe and supportive setting.

Individual therapy helps you also build self-esteem and confidence so you become more willing to share your issues and problems in a group setting. In addition, individual therapy offers other benefits, such as:

  • Helps you identify triggers to develop coping skills
  • Helps you change unhealthy behaviors, thoughts, and emotions into positive ones
  • Helps you process trauma, grief, and other personal issues in a supportive environment
  • Helps improve communications
  • Helps build healthy relationships
  • Helps you uncover effective coping skills that work specifically for you
  • Helps you gain a better understanding of your past and your “self”

Type of Individual Therapy We Offer

Everyone has different therapeutic needs to treat their mental health and co-occurring disorders. At Arbor Wellness, we work collaboratively with our clients to develop personalized treatment and care plans with the types of individual therapy that best suit their unique needs. Some of the individual therapy options available include:

CBT (Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy)

CBT is one of the top therapies used to treat mental health issues. It helps people become more aware of their negative thoughts, behaviors, and emotions while learning how to transform those into positive ones. It also helps people uncover triggers related to their mental health disorders.

Behavioral Therapy

Behavioral therapy is a “catch-all” term used for several different therapeutic approaches. The concept is that people learn behaviors, and therefore, they can unlearn negative behaviors and replace them with healthy ones. This type of therapy helps you realize you have control over how you respond to situations, people, places, and events, as well as how you choose to respond to triggers, stress, and anxiety.

MI (Motivational Interviewing)

MI is used to help people adjust to treatment when they are ambivalent toward it. It is also not uncommon for individuals to feel like treatment is going nowhere without any motivation. MI is used for both these situations to help people adjust to treatment while helping them uncover what motivates them.

Substance Use Counseling

When someone has a dual diagnosis substance use disorder, substance use counseling is a vital component of recovery. This type of counseling helps people uncover and understand the causes and nature of their addiction and their triggers. They also learn healthy and effective ways to address cravings and manage triggers without relapsing.

Our Programs that Offer Individual Therapy in Nashville

Arbor Wellness offers individual therapy in Nashville with all our mental health and dual diagnosis treatment programs. Individual therapy is just one aspect of an overall comprehensive treatment plan to help our clients achieve improved mental well-being.

  • Residential: Our residential program is for individuals who pose a risk to others or could harm themselves. It is also recommended for individuals with severe mental health symptoms and those who do not have a supportive environment at home. Clients receive 24/7 monitoring and support in a highly structured and intensive treatment program.
  • PHP: Our PHP (partial hospitalization program) is a step-down level of care from our residential program. It is also well-suited for individuals who do not require 24/7 monitoring. It provides the same highly structured and intensive treatments while allowing participants to return home or to a supportive, sober living facility.
  • IOP: Our IOP (intensive outpatient program) is a step-down level of care from our PHP. It offers more flexibility and freedom to work, attend school, and manage other personal commitments. It is also recommended for people who need mental health and dual diagnosis treatment but are unable to attend a residential or PHP program. Sessions are about three to four hours daily.

What to Expect During an Individual Therapy Session in Nashville

During an individual therapy session in Nashville at Arbor Wellness, you can expect a secure, safe, caring, and supportive environment where you can privately share your personal issues, struggles, and concerns with one of our licensed therapists. Our therapists work with you to determine the most appropriate evidence-based and holistic techniques to use to help you achieve your treatment objectives and long-term goals.

Initially, you and your therapist will get to know one another to build rapport and trust. Trust is an essential part of therapy to ensure you are willing to open up and share your innermost thoughts. Additionally, your therapists will inquire about any pressing issues, prior therapy experience, and anything else you would like to cover in future sessions.

Once your therapist has learned more about you and your needs, they will work with you to create a customized treatment plan to address all of your issues and concerns. Your treatment plan will also have short- and long-term goals to help measure your treatment progress. Your therapist will even give you “homework” to do in between sessions.

How Many Times a Week Do I See My Therapist?

Generally, you will see your therapist once per week. However, if you feel like you need more individual therapy sessions, it is easy to add more weekly sessions. Your sessions may become bi-monthly or even monthly as you progress through treatment, depending on how much support you need.

The only good thing about arbor wellness was Mo and a couple other staff members that I don’t even know still work there. They can’t seem to keep workers on board without constantly firing them. It’s an ever revolving door just like it is for us clients. It’s honestly really depressing there and it feels and looks like and pretty much is a psych hospital. And also if you smoke a lot you will hate it there because they barely take you out for smoke breaks. they always tell you they will but once you get there they give you the run around.

My daughter was admitted to this facility recently, and our experience was nothing short of a nightmare. We were given numerous promises before she began her treatment, but we were utterly shocked by the reality of what she faced.First and foremost, the website falsely advertises a wide range of treatment options, but the truth is, they are severely understaffed to dangerously low levels. My daughter, along with several others, was given the wrong medication on multiple occasions. When she tried to inform the nurse, she was shockingly told to “shut up.”When I tried to check on her, I was met with every excuse under the sun as to why she couldn’t come to the phone, and I couldn’t even get a simple update on her condition. The most alarming part is that they house men and women in the same boarding areas, creating a dangerous environment. They clearly do not care about the safety of their patients. This facility seems only interested in milking your insurance for every penny, without providing the care and support they claim to offer.I strongly advise against sending your loved ones here. This place is a complete disgrace, and I wouldn’t wish this experience on anyone.

if i could give 0 stars, i would. note: this is my 2nd time through this program.Chris…i dont even know where to start with him. we went from the Madison location to the Brentwood location. it seems as though Chris thought “ohhh, bigger location, that means more clients, lets do it!!!” and did not think anything else through beyond that.there are fights. lots of them. whether verbal or physical. and you wanna know why? lack of staff! we moved into a building with 2x the amount of people to hold, but Chris didn’t think to hire more staff. you might think…he just made this huge financial decision so he can’t afford them!1. if you can’t afford to hire more staff when you know you’ll get at least double the amount of clients…thats a horrible decision2. i have seen a bill from someone who was in Arbor with me the first time, it was close to $300,000 their insurance paid.therefore, Chris, you could have EASILY paid for more staff.dont even get me started on my case manager…btw, they only have 2 🥲. Shanesia has to be the most unprofessional person i have ever met. 100% of her clients have complained about how unprofessional she is. she has stated, TO CLIENTS, how much she hates her job. someone was on their 20 minute phone call for the week had her cussing in the background, to the point where he had to get off the phone because she was being so foul.i have a billion more things to say, but i’ll leave it with this…i wouldn’t wish going to Arbor Wellness on my worst enemy. yeah, you (now) have full beds and a TV in your room. it isn’t worth it. i went there for help with my PTSD and they did NOTHING but make it worse.do not go here.

One of my family members was going through a really rough time and we knew they needed more help than we could give them. I heard about Arbor Wellness in passing and we are so glad we decided to give it a shot. The staff and facility are both fantastic and we couldn’t have done it without them.
