What is Family Therapy?

Family therapy is a type of psychological counseling designed to help family members improve communication, resolve conflicts, and foster healthier relationships. It involves the participation of multiple family members, often focusing on the family as a whole rather than on individual members. The goal is to identify and address patterns of behavior that contribute to family dysfunction, thereby enhancing the overall emotional and psychological well-being of the family unit. Through guided sessions with a licensed therapist, families learn to understand each other’s perspectives, develop effective coping strategies, and build stronger, more supportive connections. Whether dealing with mental health issues, substance abuse, or significant life changes, family therapy provides a structured and supportive environment for healing and growth.

How Can Family Therapy Help My Mental Health?

Family therapy focuses on the dynamics and interactions within a family. It recognizes that each family member plays a role in the mental health of others. By addressing these dynamics, family therapy can help:

  • Improve communication among family members.
  • Resolve conflicts in a constructive manner.
  • Strengthen emotional connections.
  • Foster a supportive environment for individuals dealing with mental health issues.
  • Address and modify problematic behaviors.

By working together, families can create a nurturing environment that promotes mental health and well-being for everyone involved.

How Does Family Therapy at Arbor Wellness Work?

At Arbor Wellness, our approach to family therapy is personalized and holistic. Here’s how our process works:

  1. Initial Assessment: We start with a comprehensive assessment to understand the family’s unique needs and challenges.
  2. Customized Treatment Plan: Based on the assessment, we create a tailored therapy plan that outlines goals and strategies.
  3. Therapeutic Sessions: Regular sessions with a licensed family therapist help families work through issues, practice new skills, and build stronger relationships.
  4. Ongoing Support: We provide continuous support and adjustments to the therapy plan to ensure long-term success and improvement.

Our goal is to empower families to support each other and create lasting positive changes.

Types of Family Therapy We Offer

At Arbor Wellness, we offer a variety of family therapy modalities to address diverse needs. The best treatment modalities for you and your loved ones depends on several factors. Our experienced therapists will conduct a brief assessment prior to your initial session, ensuring we focus on pertinent topics and offer you the most appropriate care for your unique needs.

Talk Therapy

Talk therapy involves open, guided discussions led by a skilled therapist. This modality encourages family members to express their thoughts and feelings openly, fostering an environment of understanding and empathy. Through these conversations, underlying issues are brought to the surface, enabling the family to address and resolve conflicts more effectively. This type of therapy helps build stronger emotional connections and improves communication skills within the family unit.

Adjustment Behaviors

Adjustment behaviors therapy focuses on identifying and changing specific behaviors that contribute to family stress and dysfunction. This approach involves setting clear goals and developing practical strategies to modify these behaviors in a positive direction. For example, a therapist might work with a family to develop healthier routines, improve parenting techniques, or establish better boundaries. This type of therapy helps families create a more harmonious and supportive environment.

Intervention

Intervention therapy is particularly useful when a family member’s behavior is severely impacting the family dynamic. This approach involves the coordinated efforts of the family to encourage the individual to seek help and make necessary changes. The therapist guides the family through the intervention process, providing support and strategies to address the problematic behavior. This type of therapy can be crucial for families dealing with substance abuse, severe mental health issues, or other crises.

Multidimensional Family Systems Therapy

Multidimensional family systems therapy examines the family as a whole system and addresses the complex interactions and relationships within it. This method is particularly effective for families dealing with substance abuse or chronic mental health issues. It involves a comprehensive approach that looks at how each family member influences and is influenced by the others. The therapist works with the family to identify dysfunctional patterns and develop healthier ways of interacting. This holistic approach helps the entire family unit function more effectively and supports long-term recovery and wellness.

AVOID Arbor Wellness! They are taking advantage of parents paying for their kids, adults & insurance companies. I already notified the proper authorities. Arbor Wellness is a money making/illegal operation/ fraud/ and a HORRIBLE PLACE FOR TREATMENT. The cost of admission depends on your intake coordinator, every patient was paying different amounts. When you get home you will be in for a big surprise, a LARGE bill. I was quoted 40k, my insurance BCBS covered everything but 16k. I politely said no way. He called back 5 minutes later (like a salesman) & said AW can do $4k instead of $16k. I only stayed 21 days, not 28. I received my bill a month later. My insurance paid $73k, and I was billed $8k, making my 21 day stay $81k. For a quote of $40k, I stayed one less week, I believe $81k is an INSURANCE SCAM & want me to pay $8k, when 4K was agreed on.How is this possible- AW has over 400 google reviews at 4.9. They opened in May 2024. 400 patients have not even gone thru AW to review the fake facility. The place has many problems. the patients requested a meeting with the owner & manager. During the meeting, we found out AW had another name before May 2024 and they were blacklisted from Insurance Companies, so they created Arbor Wellness LLC. By legal guidelines, there are supposed to be a certain amount of Behavioral Health staff to patients, there were not enough, therefore AW was breaking the law. The next day the Director of Operations was gone, probably fired. There were too many girls, so they actually put them on the boys side. One therapy session, we literally played musical chairs, the massage listed on website, is one chair that is sat on by everyone & is disgusting, the red light room is a Walmart bought red light in a huge room, the weight room is the size of my walk in closet & has no sanitizer to wash the weights or anything down. The sauna was never used because the door was removed due to patients hooking up in it.The therapy sessions are ridiculous- coloring, musical chairs, I think people left crazier & more anxiety. One night a girl was admitted, who was either on something or dangerous, but AW still admitted her. She was walking around barefoot, throwing her phone & really acting crazy. The police, ambulance & fire dept came. It jeopardized the safety of the patients, one patient she thought was her therapist & would not leave him. The police & ambulance came 3 other times, which I believe could have been prevented. AW is just a money machine, they will get what they can from the patients & health insurance, until they are blacklisted again. The owners drive Lamborghini’s, Maserati. This place is a joke for mental health in the USA

The only good thing about arbor wellness was Mo and a couple other staff members that I don’t even know still work there. They can’t seem to keep workers on board without constantly firing them. It’s an ever revolving door just like it is for us clients. It’s honestly really depressing there and it feels and looks like and pretty much is a psych hospital. And also if you smoke a lot you will hate it there because they barely take you out for smoke breaks. they always tell you they will but once you get there they give you the run around.

My daughter was admitted to this facility recently, and our experience was nothing short of a nightmare. We were given numerous promises before she began her treatment, but we were utterly shocked by the reality of what she faced.First and foremost, the website falsely advertises a wide range of treatment options, but the truth is, they are severely understaffed to dangerously low levels. My daughter, along with several others, was given the wrong medication on multiple occasions. When she tried to inform the nurse, she was shockingly told to “shut up.”When I tried to check on her, I was met with every excuse under the sun as to why she couldn’t come to the phone, and I couldn’t even get a simple update on her condition. The most alarming part is that they house men and women in the same boarding areas, creating a dangerous environment. They clearly do not care about the safety of their patients. This facility seems only interested in milking your insurance for every penny, without providing the care and support they claim to offer.I strongly advise against sending your loved ones here. This place is a complete disgrace, and I wouldn’t wish this experience on anyone.

if i could give 0 stars, i would. note: this is my 2nd time through this program.Chris…i dont even know where to start with him. we went from the Madison location to the Brentwood location. it seems as though Chris thought “ohhh, bigger location, that means more clients, lets do it!!!” and did not think anything else through beyond that.there are fights. lots of them. whether verbal or physical. and you wanna know why? lack of staff! we moved into a building with 2x the amount of people to hold, but Chris didn’t think to hire more staff. you might think…he just made this huge financial decision so he can’t afford them!1. if you can’t afford to hire more staff when you know you’ll get at least double the amount of clients…thats a horrible decision2. i have seen a bill from someone who was in Arbor with me the first time, it was close to $300,000 their insurance paid.therefore, Chris, you could have EASILY paid for more staff.dont even get me started on my case manager…btw, they only have 2 🥲. Shanesia has to be the most unprofessional person i have ever met. 100% of her clients have complained about how unprofessional she is. she has stated, TO CLIENTS, how much she hates her job. someone was on their 20 minute phone call for the week had her cussing in the background, to the point where he had to get off the phone because she was being so foul.i have a billion more things to say, but i’ll leave it with this…i wouldn’t wish going to Arbor Wellness on my worst enemy. yeah, you (now) have full beds and a TV in your room. it isn’t worth it. i went there for help with my PTSD and they did NOTHING but make it worse.do not go here.
